Hanuman Jap (हनुमान जप) is the sacred devotional practice of chanting the holy names and mantras of Lord Hanuman — the mighty Bajrang Bali (बजरंग बली), Sankatmochan (संकटमोचन — remover of all afflictions), and Pawanputra (पवनपुत्र — son of the Wind God). Hanuman Ji is revered as the greatest devotee of Lord Ram, whose unshakable devotion, extraordinary strength, and selfless service are celebrated throughout the Ramayana.
As described in Valmiki Ramayana and Tulsidas's Ramcharitmanas, Hanuman played the most pivotal role in the epic — discovering Sita in Lanka during the Sundar Kand, burning the golden city of Lanka with his flaming tail, carrying the entire Sanjeevani mountain to save Lakshman, and fighting fearlessly against Ravan's armies. It is said that wherever Ram Naam is chanted, Hanuman Ji is present, and wherever Hanuman is worshipped, Lord Ram's grace flows naturally.
The most powerful mantras used in Hanuman Naam Jap (हनुमान नाम जप) are:
ॐ हं हनुमते नमः
Om Han Hanumate Namah
Hanuman Beej Mantra — The seed mantra containing Hanuman's concentrated divine energy. "Han" is the beej akshar of Hanuman. Most effective for daily jap, chanted 108 times with a mala for protection and strength.
जय हनुमान ज्ञान गुण सागर, जय कपीश तिहुं लोक उजागर
Jai Hanuman Gyan Gun Sagar, Jai Kapish Tihun Lok Ujagar
Hanuman Chalisa (Opening Chaupai) — Written by Goswami Tulsidas, the Hanuman Chalisa contains 40 verses praising Hanuman's glory. Reciting it daily is the single most popular Hanuman devotional practice in India. "Victory to Hanuman, ocean of wisdom and virtue, victory to the Lord of Vanaras, illuminator of the three worlds."
ॐ नमो हनुमते भयभंजनाय सुखं कुरु फट स्वाहा
Om Namo Hanumate Bhayabhanjanaaya Sukham Kuru Phat Swaha
Sankatmochan Mantra — A powerful mantra invoking Hanuman as the destroyer of fear and bestower of happiness. Used specifically for removing deep-rooted fears, anxiety, and seemingly impossible obstacles.
बजरंग बाण
Bajrang Baan
Bajrang Baan — Composed by Tulsidas, this is among the most potent Hanuman prayers. "Baan" means arrow — it invokes Hanuman as a divine weapon against evil forces, black magic, and severe negative energies. Recited on Tuesdays and Saturdays for maximum effect.
Whether you chant the Hanuman Beej Mantra (हनुमान बीज मंत्र), recite the Hanuman Chalisa (हनुमान चालीसा), read the Bajrang Baan (बजरंग बाण), or perform Hanuman Ashtak (हनुमान अष्टक) — the essence is the same: invoking the mighty Pawanputra's blessings for protection, courage, and devotion to Lord Ram.
