Privacy Policy

Project Karma ("we", "our", or "us") operates the Naam Jap Android application (the "App"). This policy explains what we collect, why, and your rights.

1. Information We Collect

• Account: name and email from Google Sign-In.
• Spiritual practice: Sankalpas, mantras, jap counts, streaks, history.
• Preferences: language, notification settings, reminder times.
• Device & install: a device fingerprint (model, OS, screen, network type, carrier, locale, timezone), install-attribution data (Play Install Referrer, UTM tags, Facebook deferred deep link), and Firebase identifiers — used for fraud detection, install-funnel analytics, and reliability. Some of this is recorded on first launch under an anonymous account that is upgraded to your Google account when you sign in.
• Location (optional): if you grant the location permission, we use approximate device location for regional leaderboard grouping (city-level). If denied, we fall back to IP-based country/region only.
• Phone number (optional): only if you choose to share it via the in-app WhatsApp community prompt.
• Diagnostics: crash reports, performance traces, and basic analytics events (app opens, sign-ups, feature usage).

2. How We Use It

• Run the App's core features (counter, sankalp tracking, sync, reminders, leaderboards).
• Diagnose crashes and performance regressions.
• Measure which install sources convert to active users.
• Send daily reminder notifications and occasional product updates.
• Detect and prevent abuse.

3. Public Information

If you appear on a leaderboard, your display name and approximate region (country / state / district / city) are visible to other users. You can opt out by disabling "Show on leaderboard" in the App settings.

4. Third-Party Services

We use these services; each has its own privacy policy:

• Google Firebase — authentication, data storage, push notifications, crash reporting, performance monitoring, analytics.
• Google Sign-In — account authentication.
• Google Play Install Referrer — install attribution.
• Meta (Facebook) SDK — install and signup attribution for our advertising.
• OpenStreetMap Nominatim & ipwhois.app — reverse geocoding for the optional location feature.

5. Push Notifications

Daily japa reminders fire locally at times you configure. Occasional product or community announcements come via Firebase Cloud Messaging. You can disable notifications anytime in device or app settings.

6. Guest Mode

You can use the App without an account; in that case data stays on-device and is lost if you uninstall.

7. Data Retention & Your Rights

Account data is retained while your account is active. Anonymous pre-signup telemetry is deleted after 180 days for users who never complete sign-up. You can request access, correction, export, or deletion of your data by email — we will respond within 30 days.

8. Data Location

Data is stored on Google Cloud (Firebase). Some processing may occur in regions outside India.

9. Children's Privacy

The App is intended for users aged 13 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13; if you believe we have, contact us and we will delete it.

10. Legal Basis (EU users)

We process your data on the basis of contract (to provide the App), legitimate interest (analytics, fraud prevention), and consent (location, marketing communications). You may withdraw consent at any time.

We may update this policy; the "Last updated" date above reflects the current version.
